Visa requirements

Under Australia's universal visa system, all visitors to Australia must have a valid visa to travel to and enter Australia (other than New Zealand passport holders who will normally be granted a Special Category visa on arrival, provided they meet health and character requirements; and permanent residents of Norfolk Island who may be granted a Permanent Resident of Norfolk Island visa on arrival.  For more information, see the fact sheet for NZ passport holders).

There are many visa options available to people wishing to visit Australia. The appropriate visa option will depend, amongst other things, on the person's purpose for visiting Australia.

The Business Fact Sheet contains information about the visa options available for those who are travelling to Australia as business visitors.

Please also refer to the Visa Applications Requirements Fact Sheet for information on visa application requirements. Please be aware that all applicants are assessed against Australian’s health and character requirements.

More information on visas for people to come to Australia for tourism or business purposes is available on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website.

We strongly recommend that delegates apply for their visa well in advance of their intended date of travel to Australia. All visitors should apply for a visa at least two months prior to their intended date of departure, and four months prior for people with character or health concerns. All travellers to Australia must have a valid visa before boarding their plane. Travellers to Australia cannot apply for a visa on arrival.

Please note that a confirmation of registration is automatically sent by email when your registration is completed, and an additional confirmation is sent after successful payment (including a tax invoice). Should you require a letter of invitation in addition to these confirmations for visa application purposes, these are available once all fees have been paid. Please email aofsrr2015@synchrotron.org.au to request a letter of invitation.
