Plenary Speakers

Daniela Stock Daniela Stock is an NHMRC Senior Research Fellow and heads the Structural Biology Program at The Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute in Sydney. She received a degree in mineralogy and crystallography from the Free University of Berlin in 1992 followed by a PhD in Structural Biology at the Max-Planck Institute in Munich (Kekulé Fellowship with Robert Huber solving 20S proteasome structures) in 1996 and postdoctoral work at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Cambridge, UK (EMBO Fellowship with John Walker studying ATP synthase structures). From 2000 she led an independent group at the MRC LMB studying molecular machines and moved to Australia in 2006 to start up Structural Biology at the VCCRI. Her lab is interested in structure determination of membrane protein complexes and in method development to facilitate their structure determination. Abstract
Harald Ade

A native of Germany, H. Ade received his Ph.D. in 1990 in Physics from Stony Brook University and after a postdoc also at Stony Brook University has been a faculty at NCSU since Nov. 1992, rising through the ranks to Full Professor by 2001. He has served as Director of Graduate Program in Physics from 2006-2013 and was named Distinguished Professor of Physics in 2014. Recognitions include RD100 Award, NSF Young Investigator Award, APS Fellow, AAAS Fellow, K. F. J. Heinrich Award, Alumni Outstanding Research Award, Halbach Award and Shirley Award (Advanced Light Source). He has authored more than 230 publications (h=45) and delivered more than 200 invited presentations. Amongst other professional engagements, he has served on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the BESSY-II Synchrotron Facility in Berlin, Germany, and the Helmholz Zentrum Berlin, Germany, and is presently serving on the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Advanced Light Source in Berkeley. Bruce Ravel

Bruce Ravel is a physicist in the Synchrotron Methods Group of the Materials Measurement Laboratory at the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).  For the last several years, he has run beamline X23A2, an XAS beamline at the National Synchrotron Light Source.  NIST is building beamlines at the newly operational National Synchrotron Light Source II, including a new beamline for XAS and XRD. Bruce is known in the XAS community as the co-author of a widely-used package of software for XAS data processing and analysis and for XAS training courses at synchrotron and universities around the world. Abstract
