New Synchrotron Awards

The following new awards will be awarded at this year’s Australian Synchrotron User meeting.

Australian Synchrotron Research Award

For outstanding research performed at the Australian Synchrotron by a researcher with up to 10 years research experience post-PhD.

Awarded annually to a researcher with (as of November 31 of the relevant year) up to 10 years full-time equivalent career experience since graduating from their PhD (career interruptions will be considered). The awardee will have demonstrated significant research outcomes from the Australian Synchrotron evidenced by their publication record and international standing within their field.

The application will consist of a 1-application form with a 2-page CV. Self-nominations are allowed.

The award will consist of a framed certificate and travel support (up to $500) to attend the Australian Synchrotron User Meeting. The awardee must be available to present a talk on their research during a plenary session at the User Meeting.

Australian Synchrotron Lifetime Contribution Medal

For outstanding leadership in synchrotron research and contribution to the Australian synchrotron community.

Awarded every 2 years to an individual who had demonstrated sustained outstanding outcomes from synchrotron-based techniques and has made significant contributions to the Australian synchrotron community.

The application will consist of a 1-application form with a 2-page CV. Self-nominations are not permitted.

The award will consist of a medal and travel support (up to $500) to attend the Australian Synchrotron User Meeting. The awardee must be available to present a talk on their research during a plenary session at the User Meeting.

Selection Process and Timeline

The selection committee will consist of the current UAC chair, the current deputy chair, the previous UAC chair and the Australian Synchrotron Director of Science. Applications will open on July 31, close on August 30 with awardees informed by September 1 to ensure attendance at the User Meeting. The names of the awardees will be publically announced prior to the User Meeting and feature as part of the planned program.
