AONSA 2018 Neutron School

This school provides an introduction to neutron scattering techniques including hands-on experiments and data analysis conducted using available instruments at ANSTO.

During five days intensive study course you will have the opportunity to learn from top level scientists and conduct practical work on some of the world’s top neutron instruments here at ANSTO.

Scientists, engineers and technicians will be on hand to assist your learning experience, providing you with skills that you can utilise at neutron sources across the world.

About the School

Lectures sessions will cover a range of neutron scattering and diffraction techniques with scientific applications in a diverse range of fields including chemistry, physics, engineering and archeology. During the five days intensive study course, you will also have the opportunity to learn from leading experts and conduct practical work on some of the world’s top neutron instruments. Scientists, engineers and technicians from within the Australian Centre for Neutron Scattering will be on hand to assist your learning experience.

The goal is to provide you with skills that you can utilize at neutron sources across the world and to open a new avenue for your future research.

Who should attend?

Graduate students, PhD students, post-doctoral and early-career researchers who want to learn about neutron elastic and inelastic scattering and diffraction.

Selection criteria

The school is open to both local and international participants, however there is a strict limit of 30 participants, to ensure small group sizes for the practical experiments. The registration fee will cover your accommodation and meals for the entire week.

The school organizers may provide limited financial support to cover travel expenses depending on the availability of funds. Applicants who request financial support should write a message in the application for. For more details, kindly contact organising committee on aonsa-school@ansto.gov.au.

Applicants are requested to complete the application form with justification for their attendance. While previous knowledge of neutron scattering techniques is not essential, it is preferred. Preference will also be given to those applicants who can demonstrate a future need for the neutron scattering techniques in their scientific research.
