Expert CAP and Eiger training
Dates: 30/01/2018 to 01/02/2018.

The Australian Synchrotron will be hosting a two part training workshop developed by the MX staff and the user community.

Part 1 - Expert CAP training
Dates: 30-31/01/2018

Participants: Maximum 30 participants. Limited to 1 person per CAP (requests for 2 users from a single CAP will be considered, but must be justified by the CAP coordinator).  Pre-registration and selection process will be necessary. Applicants will be required to upload a letter of support from their CAP coordinator. Additional details of the registration requirements will be made available on the registration page.

Objective: With the deployment of Collaborative Access Group (CAP) access scheme, it was anticipated that there would be regular training offered for 1-2 people from each CAP to advance their understanding of the MX beamline to expert users. This expert user would then be expected to take a greater level of responsibility within the CAP where they may become the first point of contact inside the CAP for any technical issues. This additional layer of support will assist in the most effective use of beamtime within a CAP in conjunction with MX staff, especially as throughput increases with implementation of faster data acquisition rates and rapid, automated sample changing.

Description of training: Two day session for Expert CAP training consisting of lectures in the morning and practicals in the afternoon. This will cover basic troubleshooting relating to quality assurance of the beamline as well as advanced recovery from common failure modes. There is also an intention to train the expert users on more challenging experimental techniques.

It is anticipated that this expert training will repeated in a regular 2 yearly cycle to maintain a high level of expertise within CAPs.

Part 2 - Eiger training
Date: 01/02/2018

Participants: No limit on attendees (prior registration required)

Objective: The Eiger 16M was installed on MX2 in February 2017. After 12 months of operations there is an excellent opportunity to evaluate what were the best operational uses of the detector, and share these learnings with the whole community. Additionally, there is a need to discuss potential hurdles and where has brought the greatest benefit.

Description of training: One day session on the Eiger setup for collection and data analysis. A mix of User and MX staff will describe their best expertise with the Eiger 16M covering the diverse use cases from small molecule to protein structure determinations.
