Soft X-ray Microscopy Masterclass

Australia/Melbourne
NCSS

NCSS

800 Blackburn Road, Clayton, VIC, 3168
Description

Supported by Microscopy Australia (formally AMMRF), Flinders University and the Australian Synchrotron

Scanning Transmission X-ray Microscopy (STXM) and Photoemission electron microscopy (PEEM) are powerful spectromicroscopy techniques that combine high spatial resolution mapping and chemical analysis. These frontier technologies allow the investigation of structural, morphological, magnetic, electronic and chemical properties of heterogeneous matter. This 2 day masterclass will provide an introduction to Scanning Transmission X-ray Microscopy and Photoemission Electron Microscopy for both new and current users and presentations from researchers. The workshop will focus on theory, sample preparation and data processing. Its aim is to familiarise participants with spectral processing and interpretation, and provide hands-on training for computational image analysis methodologies. The masterclass will conclude with an open discussion and planning session regarding the advancement and procurement of STXM for the AS, and information regarding access mechanisms to overseas facilities.

Young investigators, such as PhD students and postdocs are encouraged to apply. A limited number of travel grants provided by the AMMRF will be awarded to applicants selected on the basis of their qualifications for the purpose of the course.
