The annual Microscopy Beamlines workshop will be run online, enabling broad participation.

About this event
This workshop will introduce the capabilities of the microscopy beamlines and highlight how past users have used these capabilities to further their understanding in a range of fields. The workshop will outline future beamline plans and progress on Nanoprobe and MEX Microprobe.
The Australian Synchrotron has three beamlines in the microscopy beamlines group – IRM,THz and XFM – and a fourth is under construction - Nanoprobe.  Infrared Microscopy (IRM) and X-ray Fluorescence Microscopy (XFM) are extremely useful for characterising samples and investigating their detailed chemistry. IRM targets the distribution of organic functional groups and other covalent bonds across a wide range of samples, and XFM and Nanoprobe address the spatial distribution of most elements heavier than Al. Both beamlines routinely analyse samples from a broad range of disciplines, with experience in biological, medical, geologic, environmental, and cultural heritage investigations. THz spectroscopy is well suited to explore low-frequency vibrational modes, phonon resonances, as well as intermolecular interactions.

Who should attend?

Anyone with an interest in elemental and chemical microanalysis, including undergraduate, honours and postgraduate students, postdoctoral researchers, early career researchers and laboratory group leaders.

With Nanoprobe and µ-MEX soon to come online, it is time to upskill and reconnect to harness the powers of these unique instruments.
