The Australian Synchrotron is pleased to announce the 2017 Australian Synchrotron BioSAXS Workshop. This school is intended for a broad range of researchers, primarily focusing on those wishing to develop their basic theoretical and practical skills in biomacromolecular solution structure determination by Small-Angle Scattering.

The workshop will also bring current Users up to date on the changing capabilities and protocols of experiments on the beamlines, and getting the most out of new collection strategies. 

The full course will combine lectures by experts with intensive hands-on computer-based practical sessions to provide a thorough introduction to the theory and practice of SAXS data collection and analysis.

The aim of the course is to ensure that attendees leave with a good understanding of what goes into a good SAS experiment, how to go about data analyses and reporting results. It is suitable for researchers new to the field of biological small angle scattering, and those who are currently applying the technique to their research and wish to consolidate their skills.

Topics covered within the workshop:

• Introduction to SAXS and the Australian Synchrotron SAXS/WAXS facilities
• Introduction to SANS and ANSTO’s facilities
• Sample preparation requirements
• Fundamentals and best practice in SAXS data collection and data processing methods
• Evaluating data quality
• Basics of data modelling
• Standards for reporting data
• Data deposition
• An overview of what to do with more complicated data
• Advice on applying for beam-time.

This course is primarily open to a limited number of participants from institutions within Australia and New Zealand.

Lectures-only component: this option does not include the tutorials but includes all the lectures.
