DESCRIPTION:Speakers: David Button (ANSTO - Centre for Accelerator Science
)\nAccelerators within CAS have operated since 1964 with our first acceler
ator\, and now currently operate four tandem accelerators. This has repre
sented all too common challenges to maintain facilities where whole beamli
nes may have been built by staff who have taken full freedom or design\, a
nd left the organisation with little to no documentation or support. This
presentation will look at how todays Accelerator Systems and Development (
ASD) group have taken on the challenge to harmonise mechanical\, electrica
l\, and control systems with a guide to standardise developments.\n\nhttps

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: David Button (ANSTO - Centre for Accelerator Science
)\nThe 10 MV tandem accelerator ANTARES in early 2000 was upgraded from a
first generation bespoke control system\, which largely relied on polled s
erial communications to VME and serial devices to an EPICS control system.
In the following 20 years the EPICS control system has been expanded to
manage more than the controls of ANTARES\, such as logging facility radiat
ion monitors\, SF6 storage\, users\, etc. Though there have been some modi
fications to the controls infrastructure over time\, the underlining netwo
rks\, security\, and hardware have become liabilities which require new so
lutions to meet modern requirements. This presentation will discuss these
areas of concern along with new challenges faced with our new facilities
and current directions. Feedback from the forum on the topics discussed is
  invited and appreciated.\n\nhttps://events01.synchrotron.org.au/event/132

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Peter Linardakis (Australian National University)\nA
ustralia’s Heavy Ion Accelerator Facility (HIAF) at the Australian Natio
nal University (ANU) is undertaking\na project to upgrade its ion beam inj
ection capabilities. This involves the installation of an electrostatic\na
nalyser (ESA) to be used with the existing MSNICS ion source and a new add
itional ion source to produce\nnegative helium beams. The project requires
a major reconfiguration of ion sources at level 5 of the facility to\nacc
ommodate three ion sources and upgrade the functional safety system to pro
tect staff from the high voltage\ndecks. Both the ESA and negative helium
ion source will be supplied by National Electrostatics Corporation\n(NEC)\
, with control components being a mix of NEC and ANU supplied components.
Upon completion\, the\nproject will deliver improved sensitivity of Accele
rator Mass Spectrometry for heavier nuclide detection and\n3He and 4He (al
pha particles) that users are demanding for research problems ranging from
fundamental\ninvestigations of the quantum mechanics of nuclei to medical

DESCRIPTION:Speakers: David Button (ANSTO - Centre for Accelerator Science
)\nThe Centre for Accelerator Science maintains\, develops\, and operates
currently four tandem accelerators primarily for Accelerator Mass Spectrom
etry (AMS) and Ion Beam Analysis (IBA). In 1964 ANSTO or the AAEC at the
time installed its first accelerator\, the 3 Million Volt KN3000 single en
ded Van de Graff. Though now decommissioned\, ANSTO continued to invest in
tandem accelerator infrastructure now operating and maintaining a 10MV\,
6MV\, 2MV\, and 1MV tandem accelerators. Given the expanse in time the tan
dem accelerator facilities have been installed and developed\, CAS relies
on and supports a variety of control systems which will be detailed within
